Capturing the essence by bill cooper to buy or not to buy?
It is if Bill Cooper is talking to you in his studio showing you step by step the little tips and most importantly the developmental stages of his artworks in a variety of media the colour choices & mixing in his watercolour painting of a Red Robin was very interesting. Seeing how a master goes about composition and its changes to resolve the work was brilliant. The discussion of the build up of backgrounds was essential to understanding the bird in its environment. So the content was of a Bill Cooper standard however to pay RRP of around $60.00 for the paper back version I was disappointed at the size and feel of the book I was expecting a better quality paper the images however are well printed. Other books on drawing and painting birds I have purchased are filled with how to diagrams which are easy to study and use where as Cooper includes this in the text and spends more time leading to a finished artwork ...of a high standard, so it fills that gap in my library. It has increased my understanding of how to paint birds and is a good reference to be enjoyed.Read full review
