Caretaker's Song completes the trilogy begun with Kailie's Song and continued in Fire Song. The people of Timis are hard-pressed to deal with the aftermath of war and an influx of desperate immigrants from neighboring Arland. Unless problems caused by the hopelessness and despair of poverty can be solved, war once again threatens. The dragons of legend are threatened, too, with a token possessed by Gadred Aember which encapsulates their essence and the evil of the Abyss. Aember seeks control over the dragons, and once he forces them to obey him, he will use them and an army of dispossessed Arlanders and surviving followers of the Way to gain possession of Timis, then Kaelir. The children of Camron Thorpe and Kitra Fairchild, Rayce Thorpe and KaynaRee Fairchild, hear the dragons' cries to save them. Once the token is destroyed, will the dragons come again to help Timis, when all else fails?
