Cassy's Voice tells the story of Cassy Shaw, a former jazz singer in New Orleans. Before she began her career as a singer she worked as a seamstress for the Le Blanc family in The Garden District. It was here her life took a devastating turn when she was raped by her employer. She became pregnant and lost her baby. Now in 2005 she left the creole cottage she shares with her husband Louis Le Blanc in the middle of the night to go to his bookstore on Royal Street to collect a parcel for her from an address on The River Road, Maisonbelle, the Le Blancs family plantation. This is ordinary night, hurricane Katrina is about to hit the city of New Orleans and with it the past is revealed.
The author of this book is from Enniscorthy Co. Wexford where she began writing at the age of nine. Her first children's book The Wandering Dog was self published in 2003 and sold through the local paper in Wexford. Emily worked as a cosmetic manager and left to pursue writing full time. This is her first adult fiction book, Cassy's Voice.
