The Dlink DIR-890L was at one stage, the "king of the hill" for wireless routers,,, but as with technology products, they seldom hold the mantle for long. My purchased was largely driven by a healthy discount on offer & the specs were still quite respectable. There were other options however but Dlink it was - I had good experience with this brand previously. Build quality was very good. The unit was large, distinctive & looked solid. No complaints on this front whatsoever. During installation however, I had a few queries which the manual does not address. For the first time, I decided to give Dlink Technical Support a call. They advertise 24/7 support. Google search details looked professional, so I went ahead.., thinking I would get some support for the premium price I paid for their product. To cut the story short, it was a bad experience. When I got through to tech support, the person on the phone was not helpful. Soon, he transferred me to another party on the basis I owned the router for less than a month & thereby qualified for free support. The transfer went through I was soon speaking to another tech person. Then we encountered phone problems. There were line drop outs. The conversation was like "cat & mouse". Less than a minute later, the phone cut off. Unless you know exactly what you are doing, & you are getting the router for a very very good price, & you will not need to contact Dlink tech support, buy one!Read full review

I am really really satisfied with this product. · Big box, but the size of the router is not that big, great design, really satisfied with it. · I am currently with Optus NBN 100m service, but the previous downloading speed in my location is just around 4mb/s when I used the Optus's gift router in the starter kit. First of all, one thing needs to be keep in mind is that "A good router doesn't increase your Internet speed", it is a quite general statement (maybe misleading) but basically it means if you are not satisfied with your downloading speed when you signed a 10M service, no router will make the speed as fast as a 50M speed pack. However, it DOES maximise the efficiency of your Internet service. After using it, my downloading speed literally boosts to around 11mb/s, and that's almost three times faster than when I was with the old Optus router. Depending on the location, you could be even faster than this. But for me, this is enough. · Compatibility? YES, it is compatible with NBN, and actually it is beyond compatible. My old Optus router only works in the garage under the NBN box, and it didnt work when I try to connect it inside the house, probably because of the setting issues (and the Optus tech person basically knows nothing, dont rely on them). When this router arrived, I give it a try inside the house and it works perfectly, no extra setting actions need to be done. Want to change the password? Easy, follow the manual and go online, just several clicks. · Value? Well I bought it when the 20%off discount hit, so personally I would say fairly cheap.Read full review

I purchased this rather then a cheaper model. I wanted it for my studio outside to enable better coverage for FaceTime calls when working. It was quite difficult to set up (upset my internet connection on devices but I finally got it working) and I have a netgear modem/router. I'm not sure that it is any better then previous and not tech savvy enough to know if it is this extender or the caller's setup and equipment that makes it ineffective and gives poor connection. So I'm neutral here on whether it is worth it for my purpose. On reflection, I probably wouldn't have bought it - to my mind it needs to do what it is supposed to do. I have a small house and the studio is only a few metres away from the house.
