Der Gilfpilz ‘The Poison Mushroom (or The Toadstool)’ is one of the most vitriolic anti-Semitic works ever written. Composed by Julius Streicher (hung at Nuremberg in 1946), the book was created for German children, with the hope of making them Jew hating Nazis from an early age. A translation of the first page is as follows: “Just as it is often hard to tell a toadstool from an edible mushroom, so too it is often very hard to recognize the Jew as a swindler and criminal...” But this is just the beginning. The hate just grows and grows. By the fourteenth page, the German child reads that “[t]he God of the Jews is money. To earn money, he commits the greatest crimes. He will not rest until he can sit on a huge money sack, until he has become the king of money.” The seventeenth and final page ends the book. It states: “’He who fights the Jews battles the Devil.’ Julius Streicher.” Unless this were a listing for an original edition [which in good condition could cost over $1000] (and this one is not; rather, it is a facsimile whereas the original was a large sized hardcover and only published in German), there is not one valid reason for selling it or buying it. The book is hate literature, plain and simple vitriol (Der Giftpilz was used as evidence against the Nazi Jew baiter, Julius Streicher, (the author) at the Nuremberg Trials (where he was hung!). Only Jew haters will find a Der Giftpilz copy useful. This listing was placed to promote hate, to spread anti-Semitism. It has no other purpose nor is there any other reason that it appears on eBay—no more than those who buy it or sell it!Read full review
