Keeping up with the times, the songs on Down to Love Town are disco length for those who enjoy dancing uninterrupted for more than three minutes. The most successful single was "Down to Love Town," their biggest record since Marvin Gaye crafted songs for them. The dancer has lead Freddy Gorman's tenor/baritone exhorting everybody to take their bodies down to love town for some good times. Freddy Gorman, Walter Gaines, Henry Dixon, and Ty Hunter's forte were ballads, not tambourine banging, hand clapping, and booty-shaking. Even so, "You Are a Blessing to Me" is a charming, lilting, midtempo beauty. Still, "Call Me Your six Million Dollar Man" is too pretentious to be taking seriously. The guys don't switch leads around as much on this one, with Gorman out front most of the time. ~ Andrew Hamilton
