The remastering that has been done on these early Bowie albums is absolutely fantastic! I know it's a bit of a cliche to say this but it really does sound like Bowie is "in the room" so to speak. Hunky Dory in particular is fabulous, and Bowie's singing is really brought to the fore by the remastering process - no autotune in those days! A couple of minor points, the 2003 remix of Ziggy seems a bit pointless to me - it's neither better nor worse, just different sounding so I'm not sure why it was done to be honest. There is no explanation in the accompanying book on how it came about either. Also on the live at Santa Monica disc, I'm pretty sure that Bowie is singing harmony with himself on a couple of songs - notably "Space Oddity", so either Mick Ronson has worked on his perfect Bowie imitation, or Bowie has dubbed them on afterwards. But these are minor quibbles and overall the sound is brilliant - especially compared to the original ultra-thin vinyl RCA albums of the early 70s!Read full review
