I'm an old-time home-mechanic. I built, modified, raced and serviced many cars from the 1960s thru the 1980s when computer tech and plastic moulded bits meant I couldn't do a rebuild with a hammer, pliers, 2-head screwdriver and a length of barbed wire. When I bought a used Toyota Vienta V6 Automatic to give my wife driving lessons, (my first auto and only second with computer) I was amazed at the smooth ride, gear-change and low fuel consumption, but shocked by the cost of a full service. To save money, I decided I would use my skills and experience, my son's advice, (he's a petrol-head, working in the industry) and a good workshop manual to help me understand the new technology. I had Haynes manuals for my motorcycles, Toyota truck and Suzuki Swift GTI fun-bucket. They were always good value. I found this manual on eBay, for the price of half a tank of petrol. The copy is clear, comprehensive but concise and the diagrams and photographs make it all easy to follow. Three nights early to bed to read it through gave me the confidence to change brake pads, water-pump, timing and drive belts, replace most of the lightbulbs with LEDs and do all the fluid services. The old overalls are a bit tight now, but I actually enjoy being in the greasy-hand club again. I leave the electronics to the people with the test and tune instruments, and because I do the rest, maintenance is relatively no more expensive than 30 years ago. This manual has been a good investment and I will get the appropriate Haynes manual for my next vehicle, when I select the right chassis to build the grey-nomad camper-van body onto. Go on, don't hesitate, get your Haynes manual now and enjoy motoring to the full.Read full review
