Older laptops and computers like the G4 Mac Mini, which have ATA hard drive interfaces can either be upgraded with ATA-to-Serial adapters ... or you can buy one of these. Considering how little drive-bay room a machine that can only take a 2.5" HDD has, I decided not to tempt fate with space or the workings of a cheap adapter, and just buy an ATA drive. The Hitachi Travelstar has a solid reputation as one of the last the ATA laptop drives and has long been noted for its speed and reliability. It made for a great upgrade to my mum's G4 Mac Mini.

I bought this to replace a failed HDD in an old Mac Mini, which has a PATA interface. It's great that such drives are still available given that world+dog has moved to SATA. I find that Hitachi drives are very good.
