I like this book very much. It is well written and informative. Ms. Olson takes the reader through her process of becoming an art quilter. There are many illustrations which help to understand the process she goes through to create these different types of quilts. From designing your quilt pattern to which type of thread you should use and how to use creative machine stitching,Ms.Olson covers it all. She has also included many color photos of her quilts and those of other well known quilt artists. I have purchased books on art quilting before and this one is the most informative. I decided to buy it because of my interest in how to approach art quilting and the price on the books was very inexpensive! For under ten dollars, I have a book that will serve me well in my endeavors.
This book provides a course of art study that goes beyond quilting to help the reader awaken to developing their own artistic style. There are many beautiful photos of the artists' quilts for inspirational but you won't find any patterns to copy these one of a kind quilts. The use of line and color can be adapted to many other forms of creative expression. The story of the artists' own journey from hobbyist to artist is enjoyable and opens the door to possibilities for this readers' own artistic journey.
