*2016 Royal Palm Literary Award Winner* Thirty-something Bradley Hunter just can't take care of his sister with special needs, but one of the teachers at her adult program will do whatever it takes to get Bradley to sign the guardianship papers. Little Angel Helper is a heart-warming vella about siblings, special needs, sacrifice, unfortunate circumstances, and faith in things unseen. The story is emotional... the writing is superb... It moved me to tears. Reader Review
I'm the youngest of three sisters, and this novella is dedicated to them. Larisa and Aunie may no longer live nearby, but they're never far from my thoughts, prayers, and they are always in my heart. This story was based on a writing prompt from a podcast called The Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine. I had a vague idea about a story featuring a character with special needs--a character based on my sister, Aunie--and their writing prompt solidified what I wanted that story to become. In seventeen days, I wrote the story live on my blog, Writing For the Love. With the novella completed, I composed one final post entitled, Afterward: Inspiration for Little Angel Helper at www.briaburton.blogspot.com/2014/08/afterward-inspiration-for-little-angel.html.
