Additional information
In the wake of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement in the early '80s (Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Motörhead, etc.), numerous similarly styled bands cropped up shortly thereafter, the best known being Metallica, as well as countless lesser-known ones, such as Germany's Warlock. Led by former model Doro Pesch, the group enjoyed a fair amount of success in Europe during their career, as they churned out a brand of metal that was quite similar in style and substance to that of Maiden (galloping rhythms, histrionic vocals, etc.). 2001 saw the DVD release of Warlock's long-out-of-print Live From London video, recorded back in 1985 at London's Camden Palace, which includes most of the headbanging highlights from their early albums. See Pesch and her band play to an amped-up crowd of 100 percent leather-wearing males, banging out such metallic tunes as "Out of Control," "Earthshaker Rock," "Hellbound," and "Time to Die." The DVD comes as a two-disc set, one disc supplying the visual element, while the other is a music CD version (the latter doesn't include as many tracks as the DVD, however), and as an added bonus, a brief Doro Pesch bio can be accessed. To sample the in-concert live experience of Doro Pesch and Warlock in their prime, Live From London will most certainly satisfy your appetite. ~ Greg Prato
