The story of a plane crash in Dutch New Guinea in WWII and the plight of the survivors. Wonderful book about survival and rescue. I'm retired USAF and into military history. I had never heard this story when the book was recommended by a friend. Not only is it a great story, the author follows the people in the book after WWII and what their lives were like. If you like non-fiction adventures, this is a must read. Personally, I never gave the rescue idea much chance of success!
Excellent book! If you are a WWII buff, or even if you aren’t, this is an excellent story. I’m going to share it with many people I know who would just love it. Can’t imagine living through what these people did. The author did an amazing job of research. Great book. Don’t pass it up!

Wow! Where do I begin? ! I bought this after heeding an interview with the author on the radio. I thought it would be an interesting documentary, but instead was blown away on how complete and smoothly ask the facts where assembled! This is a real page turner! I felt like I broke up a relationship every time I had to set the book down! AWESOME! ! ! I bought one for my dad. Couldn't resist! He loved it too!
This book is a true story and yes a very good read. Story of a WWII plane crashed in remote New Guinea with only 3 survivors out of 21. Detailed story of their survival and the efforts to rescue them.

So far, so good. Just started reading this. A true story . The only thing I don't like about it is that it strays from the story and tells the background of some of the characters during the main story......................
