Drum Stools and Thrones

Also called a drum chair, drum stools and thrones allow the drummer or percussionist to sit comfortably behind the drum set. In any kind of band that includes a drum set, a comfortable drum stool is a must. As drumming is quite physical, it’s a good idea to shop for ones that are adjustable and durable, ready to stand up to long hours and practise and use.

Many drum stools and thrones will not have back support, although it’s not unheard of to find some that do. If back support is of an absolute must for you, then finding a throne with support is imperative. Many drum stools feature a seat that resembles a bicycle seat. This is so the drummer can move easily and fluidly as they drum. Many stools also have a locking, adjustable tripod to hold the seat firmly in place. Having an adjustable seat is both convenient and necessary.

Drummers may choose a drum seat that matches their drum sets and kits, but it’s common to buy a different brand of drum stool than the manufacturer of the kit. It’s a good idea to measure the height of your drum kit before and all of the other important dimensions before purchasing a stool. Even with flexibility and adjustable seating, you’ll want to make sure it fits comfortably behind the kit.

When it comes to percussion instrument parts and accessories, drum thrones and stools are one of the most important, so that the drummer doesn’t get sore or injured. However, it’s also a good idea to have extra drumsticks and other accessories on hand, just in case. Having comfortable sticks is as important to the wrist as having a comfortable drum stool is to the back.
