About this particular copy: this is a nice hardcover book with a classically attractive cover, just small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, but just big enough to read without straining the eyes. There is a ribbon bookmark and I like the feel of the paper. Overall this is a rather charming package. Also, the introduction by Diskin Clay was very worthwhile. About the book in general: Marcus Aurelius has little to add to the Greek wisdom from the centuries leading up to his reign, but the unique context of an emperor in his inward reflections trying to cling to the highest ideal possible as though the world depended on it somehow becomes something that resonates with us common folk as we struggle to make the best of our own lives. The unpretentious poeticism of the author's prose is delightful, and the syntax of the Greek original preserved in the translation draws me to another place and time to join in these reflections from outside my own little mundane.Read full review

Meditations is not a book to sit and read. Its a personal diary that, while written thousands of years ago, is very relevant for today. Read a few pages, a single entry, and then relax, and decide if it has any meaning for you. Many won't, but you will be surprised at how many do.
