As an Osteopath I see many patients who have acute lower back pain. Belt products such as this one are useful to provide temporary relief of the pain, as it takes the reliance off the muscles that are fatigued, and provide general support to the area. Over the years, I have tried dozens of these belt products, and what I like about this particular Mueller belt is that due to the double-strap design, it stays in place really well and provides quite a lot of support compared to others of the 'velcro strap' design. As an added benefit, I don't have to worry about getting an exact size as the 1 size fits all (well most) patients, allowing me to stock 1 size in my clinic. They achieve this by making the whole length of the belt velcro along its external surface. By contrast, some of alternative products the place where you join the velcro limits the circumference of the belt (when on) to a very specific size. Note: It doesn't FIX the underlying issue that is causing the pain. it simply provides relief so you get through your day. It isn't intended for long-term use. Anyone experiencing low back pain at a level where they are considering a belt should also be getting treatment from an appropriate practitioner, such as an Osteopath, Chiropractor or Physiotherapist who can assess and diagnose the underlying problem, and present a long-term solution.
