I own all the other Amano books and I must say that I feel this one is probably the best! Over 250 pages of amazing aquascapes. It's more of an inspirational book as opposed to a how-to guide. I suggest getting Ecology of the Planted Aquarium by Diana L. Walstad for actual step-by-step info on easily growing aquatic plants. I think many people have the wrong assumption when it comes to Amano books. If you want the specific science behind growing aquatic plants you need to go elsewhere. Amano assumes you know a bit about that already. He is great for inspiration on what to with those plants, how to balance the aquarium composition, and what kinds of fish work best in an aquascape. Nature Aquarium : Complete Works is absolutely great because you get Amano's insights. He writes about his early experiments with planted aquaria and the many setbacks he faced while developing his methods. You can see how his style has changed over the years as he discovered new plants and materials. He shows you in photos and words how and why he arranged his aquascapes and what he learned along the way. Amano is also an accomplished nature photographer. Aquascaping is a creative process. Each tank is a work of art and his tips on layout are the real value of this book. Don't look at the book as a thing to copy. Learn from it and apply his ideas in your own way and you won't go wrong. I strongly recommend this book to everyone. Well worth the price. Remember that it's not a how-to manual and it's not just a coffee table art book. Yes, you can look at many beautiful aquarium photos online. But the real value of this book is Amano's comments on specific aquascapes and the insight you get into his design philosophy.Read full review
