Extremely happy with this lens, using with a Nikon D7100 and the clarity and sharpness is almost beyond belief. I never would have imagined how much difference this lens makes to the kit lens. It’s quite astounding!

It is important to note that this lens was incorrectly listed, what I purchased is actually the "Nikon AF-S VR Micro 105mm f2.8 lens". I am not a 'photographer' by any stretch of the imagination, but I do love to take photos and record my family life in images and as a gardener, I find myself taking lots of macro shots - what a difference a lens can make! I bought this mainly for macro shots and also because of the 1:1 ratio I thought it would be useful for digitising images of family memorabilia (medals, etc). It is better than I had expected. Crisp sharp images beautiful for macro and portraits. The clarity of the lens is exceptional. I love this lens and cannot recommend it highly enough. Having used the lens now for a little while if I had to I would happily go and pay full price for it, it is that good. A must have for all Nikon owners and worth every cent I paid for it, and then some.Read full review
I bought this lens second hand. I wanted a longer lens than my 60mm f/2.8 micro and this met my requirements. It's received good reviews and I haven't been disappointed. I tend to use manual focus - no moving objects to chase! I'm very happy with it but haven't compared it to any other lens.
This an excellent macro lens. This lens is not made by Nikon anymore and it has been replaced with the new AF-S VR version. I had both version; I have the 105 F2.8D left now. I found the lens nicer to hold and lighter. Yes it is a little bit more noisy compared to the AF-S version because it does not have an inbuilt motor but you gain weight and what I think is an overall better handling. Switching in manual mode is a breeze, pictures are sharp and the lens produces nice colors. I prefer the aperture ring for Macro. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it is a tidy bit noisy and hunts a little bit more than the AF-S version otherwise the handling is in my book superior. Note that you can easily overcome this issue with the focus limiter which works quite well. Overall a very nice lens, well built in Japan, especially if you're lucky enough to get one copy in mint condition like I did.Read full review
