EXCELLENT WAY TO MANAGE GARDEN WATERING I have gone through a range of electronic tap timers over the years and all were either too hard to program or failed after a short time in the hot Australian sun! I now have 5 orbit tap timers and a wifi hub and they are brilliant! So easy to set up the program via the Orbit app on my Samsung phone and there is also a windows version of the app that i use on my laptop. The timer units are very robust and have metal connections rather than the usual plastic which also means that I was able to achieve a leakproof seal at the tap. the units are compact and unobtrusive and I actually ahve three on one tap (to serve different watering lines). The app has some very good features that make watering a breze (eg cancels watering if rain is forecast that day, takes acount of wind and ground slope in determining "smart watering" time). The units run on 2 AA batteries and teh wifi unit is USB powered and comes in a neat powerplug that can be used outdoors (if protected from rain) or indoors. The wifi range is good. My wifi unit is about 60 metres from teh timers and has no trouble maintaining connection. Only "complaint" I have is that the flow rate I have my system running at is very low (drip irrigation) so the apps flow rate meter reports that teh flow is too low to accurately measure.. not a problem for me anyway. the tap timers can be used without buying the wifi hub but you would then need to use yuor phone to connect toe ach one via bluetooth - easy but doesnt have the capaibility to monitor and change programs remotely. ie you need to be next to the timer with your phone if yiou want to make changes. Another neat feature is the manual watering override. You simply press the button on teh front of the timer to start manual watering and press again when you're done. This manual override doesnt need youi to have your phone with you.Read full review

I have 3 of these. They connect very well individually using bluetooth and the programming seems to be very stable for each unit in that mode. The wifi networking howevere, in my case, is appalling. The main router is within 5 metres of each unit. They connect to the network reasonably easily (took about half an hour or repeated trying but got there in the end). BUT the connection is extremely unstable. The units randomly lose connection and there is no warning that this has happened. On several occasions I was watching the app when two of the units just dropped off the network. They often fail to reconnect unless I make the connection manally through the app. After days of trying I just gave up and now run them individually with bluetooth. Looking on the web this is a common issue with the Bhyve units. I have all kinds of equipment attached to my router including security cameras. These all work perfectly with no loss of connection. I am sure its not my network and the units fail to connect even when I change ports on the router and even when entering individual MAC addresses for each unit. There is some inherent instability in either the firmware or the software. So great as long as you dont need the networking capability.Read full review
