In my search for the right digital camera, image quality, zoom, and processor speed were important for the wildlife shots intended. DSLR's had all the right features, but pricing put them out of contention mostly because of the added cost of essential (extra lenses). The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 seemed to fit my criteria, and it has. The range of functions are extensive. The auto features are as easy to use as a point-and-shoot camera. The image quality is good (RAW or JPEG), and the big plus is that it has Zoooom..! out to 600 mm, which is ideal for wildlife field shots. A search on eBay produced the goods, and the camera did the rest. With the FZ-150 Landscapes are fine, close-up shots produce fairly good quality, and so does the zoom at extended distances. As always, the mid-range produces the best results making it an ideal choice for family portraits. The compromises of this camera vs a DSLR in the 12-16 mpl range is the quality of the image and some speed loss with the autofocus. However, balance that against the cost and I feel the FZ-150 shines through with flying colours. Many photographers won't find the quality so important, as the definition in RAW is quite high. The video and burst modes have done wonders for my golf swing - and I'm sure others will put this feature through its paces more than I do. Ps It works great for shots of birds on the wing. Overall, I'd rate this camera as good to v/good. It does all I ask of it, and it does it well. The images from an entry level DSLR are better, but hey! The cost of this camera is half that of a DSLR with just one extra lens (which I don't have to buy). In short, Good choice - good value.!Read full review
We purchased this camera as means of having both a digital still camera and a digital movie camera for our next O/Seas trip in one unit as I got sick and tired of switching between the two on our last trip. After a bit of research this camera seemed to fit the build. Good zoom capability (24 x zoom works equally as well in still picture and video mode), good image quality (up to 12 megapixels and full HD video) and flexability between manual and fully automatic modes to give a range of option when shooting pictures. I have now used the camera in quite a few situation (out doors, indoors, bright light, low light etc) and so far it has performed very well. Image and video quilty has been excellent. Its size and weight while obviously not as light as a small point and shoot is still good and not as bulky and a digital SLR with benefit of having a good zoom range without having to carry extra lenses. I am no tech expert or photographic genius, far from it. I am sure people who are more well versed in these areas could point out weaknesses in the camera. For me I want a camera that is easy to use, has useful functionality and most importantly, takes good images and is not going to break the bank. For me ths camera fitted all of this points very well. That is why I would have no problems recommending this cameraRead full review
Why I purchased the fz 150 is because I have the old fz 50 and it's an awesome camera, but it was time to update as I wanted more zoom, the fz 150 has it. I love the leica lenses on these cameras and the picture quality is sharp as, the new fz 150 is a lighter camera, with awesome features like the fast shooting and full hd video and the night hand held features,I take mostly bird pics and it's great for this, I love this camera and I'm sure i will be very happy with it, I still love my old banged up fz 50 too and will keep it for a spare. the only small complaint is the eye piece is a bit small so will have to get used to that.
I bought this camera as a starting point for my interest in photography. It was one of the cameras recommended to me as I will be going safari in the next month. I am still learning the finer points of functions available with this model but I'm sure it's going to be a valuable item on my travels. One of the major considerations when packing for safari is the weight of every item, as luggage and weight restrictions are severe. This camera will be functional but also light.
Best camera for the price, after a lot of searching I bought the fz150. I'm so happy, very fast, good quality. Lumix rocks!! Not bulky as a DSLR, full manual options. 100% recommended.
