Welding Gloves
Welding represented a tremendous leap forward in manufacturing technology, letting us finally put one and one together to create a car, a metal shelf unit, an airplane, or any number of other things. Welding is not without its risks though; anything intense enough to weld two pieces of metal together can easily do a person some serious mischief. That’s why there’s a bunch of safety equipment you’ll need to invest in if you’re going to be doing any amount of welding. Don’t cut corners, don’t think “just real quick”. Welding is dangerous and you can seriously injure yourself if you’re not careful. Your hands are the part of you that’s closest to the action when you’re welding so you’ll need a sturdy pair of gloves to start off with.
Welding SafetyThere are a number of factors that make welding risky; fire, electrocution, radiation, noise, and flying debris and sparks to name a few. Good welding gloves will help protect your hands from electrocution if something goes wrong, though a properly functioning TIG welding machine isn’t going to electrocute you even if you try; the machine simply won’t switch onto dangerous levels of current unless it’s pointed at a grounded piece of metal. The gloves will also help protect your hand from the intense heat of the welding process, along with any flying sparks. Make sure your gloves haven’t been exposed to flammable substances though. That may sound obvious but it can be easy to forget about.
Other Welding ProtectionBesides gloves there is a pile of other safety equipment you’re going to need; such as an apron orwelding jackets to protect the rest of your body, as well as welding goggles or a welding mask. This is to protect your face from heat and sparks, as well as your eyes from the intense UV radiation created by the welding process. Not using proper eye protection is liable to lead to blindness before long.
