I was a bit surprised at how small the unit was when it arrived, but it seems to punch out pretty good power. I have only used it once so far welding up a frame with some 3mm angle using 2.5mm rods set at 140amps. It did a nice neat job with the flux pealing away in one piece. I also tested it on a big lump of scrap to see if it would handle 3.2mm rods and it did just fine on its maximum setting. The inverter welder is easier to weld with than my 30 year old traditional stick welder that it is replacing. I find the leads to be a bit short, but the portability of the unit makes this not so big an issue. Perfect for the home DIY enthusiast.

Do NOT use this welder with the supplied electrode and earth leads! The supplied welding cable for the leads is single layer insulated wire that breaks apart when bent and cannot handle anywhere near the maximum output for the inverter itself. The copper in the cable is as thin as a hair and snaps easily resulting in an incredibly significant amount of line loss. Without even using the welder once, measuring at the ends of the leads I found a 50% voltage drop over the 2.5m of cable. The open circuit voltage of this welder is 65 Volts DC. At the ends of the leads I measured only 30 Volts DC. This means that the poor quality leads were dropping 40-70 Amps in just 2.5m! This is completely unacceptable. On the first and only test with the original leads I had to set the welder to 150 Amps to get a 2.5mm Cigweld Satincraft electrode to even strike an arc. The max voltage for this electrode is only 90 Amps! After less than 1 electrode welded the leads were too hot to even touch. The only good thing is the actual inverter which functions as intended. So be prepared to instantly spend $70-$110 on new double insulated leads otherwise keep a fire extinguisher close by to put out the burning original leads.Read full review

I've had some troubles with this unit. I couldn't get it to light a stick until I left it and the sticks in the sun for an hour or so before it would work. I bought it so I wouldn't have to lug around a 50 odd Kg transformer welder > 40 years old, still works... I use it for stainless steel repairs on my boat. While using it to build a new SS axle group chassis for my trailer it worked OK until I started using 3.2mm rods instead of 2mm. Most of the job was 3mm square tube. I would get about a rod and a half before it wouldn't light. The next day it worked fine. As a jack o all trades I guess I haven't mastered this one. Could be the user but this unit does seam to need patients. When it doesn't light I let it sit turned off for 5min and it comes good. The over temp light hasn't come on I suspect the high frequency start is a little temper mental. So far I have used about 3 Kgs of rods with it and I am happy I got what I paid for.Read full review

This is a great little welder for the price paid. Suited for around the house or small jobs. Amperage is not accurate to digital read out but will burn a 3.2 electrode and tripped out on the 3rd straight 3.2 burnt. I did burn about half a pack of 2.5 16tc's straight without any stoppages on some 50x50x2.5 shs making some steel frames at home. Welded down hand, horizontal and vertical with no hassles.

After using my old heavy, large welder for over 30 years I was pleasantly surprised to find that this small, lightweight welder does exactly what I want to do without the hassles. Great product, good price...well done.
