For his notebook, the artist, writer and curator Raimundas Malasauskas stages a fictional seance with five other participants: the burlesque legend Dixie Evans, artist Christodoulos Panayiotou, literary theorist Ruth Robbins, artist Jessica Warboys, and dancer Helene Vanel. The many-voiced mediumistic text starts with a phone call from actress Sally Rand, who pretends to be President Roosevelt and informs the shocked Dixie Evans about the death of Marilyn Monroe in 1962. Catapulting and re-performing have been key words of the neo-burlesque movement in the U.S. and Europe since the 1990s. Participants talk about the moment of re-performing clothes, bodies, and tropes, when excitement sparks through both sexual and social attraction.
