When he emerged in the late 1960's, the white Texan blues guitarist Johnny Winter was a bit of an anomaly--decades later he's regarded as a blues and blues-rock icon, recording with no less a giant than Muddy Waters. RAISED ON BLUES is a compilation of Winters's late `60s and early `70s recordings, when Winters went back and forth between traditional Texas blues and rip-roaring rock & roll, occasionally mixing the two. Winters is backed by his multi-instrumentalist brother Edgar and ace rocker Rick Derringer on a mixture of choice covers and originals. RAISED makes a nice primer for recent coverts to the world of Winters.
