I found Pawson and Tilley′s latest work on evaluation an enjoyable and informative read. For myself their `realistic evaluation′ clarified and formalised a jumbled set of ideas I had already been developing.

Pawson and Tilley's seminal evaluation text on their Realist approach to evaluation
A seminal evaluation book from the 1990s that sets out Pawson and Tilley's original conceptual and practical approach to evaluation - Realistic/Realist Evaluation - that draws closer links to social science evidence and practice. It includes a re-working of how a theory of change could and should be used in evaluation. Useful reading and reference book for evaluators and anyone who wants to understand their particular philosophy / type / approach to a theory of change and better understand how it might be different to other approaches (including other ways of creating a theory of change).
