Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Video Game Consoles
This 15 year old console which has entered my life like a second wife in my marriage. The wife was not impressed when I suggested a three way. At first, the graphics in this console were a harsh reminder of what graphics were like circa 1995 in video games. If there were ports of games that ended up on both PSX and Saturn, generally speaking the Saturn does them better (with an exception for one or two). However, it only took a few great games to remind me that it doesn't have to be modern graphics to be an exceptional game. There are excellent exclusives to the Saturn which simply can not be rivalled by any other console that people seem to ignore - Guardian Heroes, Shining Wisdom, Sega Rally, Radiant Silvergun, Batsugun, etc. I bought this back about 2 months ago and have found there are TONNES of games for it that are excellent. I am surprised that others haven't already jumped on the bandwagon. There are constant bickering on the net about how Saturn doesn't do better 3D than PSX at the time and how there were always way more games on the PSX than there were on the Saturn. And to be fair in 1995, I did not own a Saturn - I owned a PSX. I always WANTED a Saturn but even when the PSX price came down at the time (which is when I got mine), the Saturn did not and my parents couldn't encourage even more time in front of the TV playing video games so we never got one. In retrospect, I should have bought this console over the PSX. The three genres I loved are the ones this console did extremely well: Shmups, 1-on-1 fighters and Pinball games. The only games from memory I wish the Saturn actually had were Tekken series, Tony Hawks Pro Skater series, Street Fighter EX series and Gran Turismo series. Everything else I could live without (including Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid). The Saturn had Panzer Dragoon Saga and the Shining Series to keep my RPG love at bay. Plus, I could play FF on the PC anyway. You had Mega Man, Metal Slug, King of Fighters series, NiGHTS into Dreams, Mr Bones, EVERY Virtua Fighting Game, (just about) EVERY Street Fighter game, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Burning Rangers, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Sonic Jam, Sonic R, Albert Odyssey, Shining Force III, Shining the Holy Ark, DonPachi, DoDonPachi, House of the Dead, Virtual Cop 1 & 2, Die Hard Arcade, Saturn Bomberman, Thunder Force V, Rayman, Virtual On...the list goes on. Granted, some of those are imports but they are DEFINITELY worth tracking down. It's such a shame this console was never given the fighting chance it should due to poor advertising and planning. Plus writing games for it was a programming nightmare as its architecture was something out-of-the-box for its time and their disregard for 3D gaming. This is an awesome and sorely underrated console which is a must-have for retro gaming collectors.Read full review
The Sega Saturn Black Console is fantastic. It has 10,000 games with the old games eg: Crash Bandycoot, T.M.N.T,Golden Axe etc This game is wonderful for the children and older for those game enthusiast. You can listen to all your mp3 music and videos as well
The Sega Saturn is a fantastic example of underrated and pure 90's gaming console! They are still super fun to play more then a decade later and have a really large library of games, most of which can be picked up pretty cheap. The console itself is pretty stylish and reliable, I have owned 2 of these consoles and have never had any problems with them! Over all they can set you back a bit more then other consoles of the time due to them being a bit rarer but if you can hunt one down for a decent price, which would be anywhere from $50 (basic console no games etc) to $200 (controllers, big bunch of games) then I highly recommend doing so!
