I bought these headphones as mid-ranged priced and were bought on a recommendation from a friend who has a similar Sennheiser HD headphones (just the model up from this). Sound reproduction is sharp, clear and defined when listening to FLAC / lossless audio (CD quality). When listening to 320kbps MP3s the sound reproduced is noticeable (the lack of) but caused because of compression. This headphone really can make you distinguish very quickly the audio compression/quality. The accuracy is amazing you will eventually run away from MP3 and start ripping CD quality/lossless audio files. Overall if you are looking for accurate sound reproduction this is the headphones for you! They are comfortable and has a long cable so you won't have to worry if you need to move about a little while connected to your HiFi System or PC. This is not a headphone for wearing around people since the audio leaks like a sieve but as mention this is an "open headphone" not an enclosed one. You won't be disappointed with the build and sound quality of these headphones. Very reasonably priced and your investment is worth it. Sennheiser have some of the best headphones and highly recommend you go into a specialist audio place to test drive this if you have doubts.Read full review
This is a great headphone: well build, lightweight, pinpoint imaging, highly resolving and will get better and better with better amplification and dacs. But don't expect a booming bass. It's also pretty bright, so if you're treble sensitive you may want to consider the HD6XX or HD650. Personally I feel those lost some magic that this one has. This headphone works best I think for classical music and jazz. It's also sturdy, pads and padding can be replaced, so it will last many years. In the end, this one of the great audiophile bargains and it has had amazing longevity - it was first released in 1997. Today, it's still a reference headphone and has few real compatitors. I would personally rate the Verum 1 a better headphone, with all the low end, spreaker like natural presentation and fewer quirks and more a 'being there' quality, but a very similar audiophile bargain.Read full review

The HD600's from Sennheiser are the best headphones I've ever owned. I'd describe the lows as being well detailed and punchy, especially for open back headphones. The mids are well pronounced but not obnoxious. The highs are bright but not harsh. They fit snugly but comfortably with enough adjustment for us large headed individuals. Recommend for anybody who likes an uncoloured sound, a fairly flat EQ, and an extremely wide soundstage. Highly recommended for mixing/mastering. Requires headphone amp to drive properly.

I bought these to use for mixing music on my Yamaha Mo6 and the pc. The sound quality is excellent, close your eyes while playing and you'd swear you were right there with the real thing. The bass response is perfect. My last headphones were AKG k141's, which were good, but the hd600's leave them for dead, especially when recording bass tracks. They're also very comfortable and well made.
