I am a much bigger fan of Rod Stewart's early work (the recordings he made with the Mercury label) prior to his album Atlantic Crossing and what followed. That said, Atlantic Crossing and it's successor A Night on the Town took Stewart's popularity to new heights, particularly in the USA where he went in search of even bigger fame. This compilation therefore serves as a very good addition to the Mercury Recordings triple disc compilation, particularly for those who want to have compilations that canvasses Stewart's career more comprehensively. There are many very good songs on this compilation, not necessarily in my view, including the more popular songs of the period covered, which will highly appeal to other listeners. I guess I can't have it both ways though, so succinctly put, I rate this compilation as probably the best compilation covering the particular period of Stewart's recordings. Read full review
