With the help of a great number of materials that have been implanted in the human body, advanced medical technology has had a great effect on the well being of human. In order to use metallic biomaterials in the body, they need to be non-toxic or non-carcinogenic, imposing no harm to the human body. At the present time, Magnesium and its alloys have experienced a significant increase in demand in biodegradable bone implant applications due to their biocompatibility as well as the fact that they have mechanical properties similar to natural bone. Previous studies on Calcium as an alloying element which has similar density to bone has shown that Mg-Ca alloys degrade within the bone and have biocompatibility both in vivo and vitro. The objectives of this book are to (a) study the effect of Ca content on the properties of binary Mg-Ca alloys and (b) assess the effect of forging parameters, forging temperature and speed, on the properties of binary Mg-1Ca alloy.
