It is a compromise between a Diatonic harmonica and a chromatic instrument. The valve (or skin) is a plastic tab attached to the plate opposite the reed (blade). This has the effect of preventing the entry into vibration of the reed blown in suction, and conversely the reed drawn in when we blow. In fact the interest of the valves is to allow the Alterations blown in the first six holes, and aspirated in the last four holes, which is impossible on an unvalve because of the interaction between the blown and aspirated lamellae. This gives access to the chromatic scale without having to resort to overblows and overdraws, very difficult to obtain without a perfect mastery.
