Arranger: Goblin . Italian prog spellcasters Goblin worked hand in hand with horror director Dario Argento to cultivate the ominous moods of his late-'70s/early-'80s horror films with their often synth-driven and always unsettling compositions. Together, the pairing of Goblin's instrumental incantations and Argento's pulse-quickening visuals resulted in some of the most chilling moments in the horror genre. Awakening gathers six volumes of Goblin's work for classic Argento films like Suspiria and Dawn of the Dead, as well as their non-soundtrack conceptual rock albums Roller (1976) and Il Fantastico Viaggio del Bagarozzo Mark (1978). ~ Fred Thomas
