I love this book. Qualities we all have at one time or another are given personalities that are easy to understand in a gentle, thoughtful way. Some are related to others and some stand alone, but J. Ruth Gendler does them all with wit and caring. "Fear has a large shadow, but he himself is quite small." So begins thse short but tight description of Fear. About Anger: "...Anger is trying to gain Truth's friendship and respect ..." This is a great gift book. Give it to a child approaching the turmoil of puberty - give it to a parent, grandparent, or a friend in good times or bad. It is empathic and lets the recipient know you understand ... whatever. Beyond the "Chicken Soup" books in its concise handling of subject matter, The Book of Qualities should be in every pastor's office, every mother's bookshelf, and every writer's library.Read full review
I love this book. I am a Shamanic medicine practitioner and I also teach Core Dynamics Ecstatic dance. I use this book to open my workshops and also to read to clients when imparting the work to give poetic structure to these characteristics, and to open the door for compassion to those qualities that people have a hard time accepting and embodying. I highly recommend this book to everyone...you will laugh, nod knowingly, even cry at the touching poetry that sheds light on human experience to its great shadowed depth. If you love Hafiz and Rumi, you will love this book. Thank you, J. Ruth Gendler for bringing this work to the world.
Highly recommend for women
