Most of Wells' stories are allegorical. He died saying "Nobody understands what I was trying to say. They think they're just fairy tales." Some, of course, more obviously than others. I read The Country of the Blind in high school. It made a memorable impression -- impact! -- so decided to revisit it 50 years later. Glad I did. The other stories here are worth a look too.
