Author Biography
Dr Barrie Biven is a psychoanalyst and a clinical psychologist and a member of the College of Experts, Health Technology Assessment Programme, University of Southampton, England. Barrie was, for many years, on the Editorial Board of the Psychoanalytic Quarterly and on the Board of the Journal of Analytic Social Work. During his time in the USA he was Associate Director, alongside Dr Humberto Nagera, of the Child Analytic Study Programme, Children's Psychiatric Hospital, University of Michigan. He has been a Consultant to the Detroit Psychiatric Institute, Wayne State University, Michigan and Consultant to the Child and Family Unit, University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has directed an experimental project working with delinquent youngsters on the streets in the east end of London and was the founder and director of a project in Brighton, England, that provided emergency accommodation and a drop - in centre for homeless and itinerant young people. For thirty-six years Barrie has been a Visiting Supervisor and Lecturer at the Institute of Mental Health, Monterrey, Mexico. He is the author of two books, 'The Finality of Youth' and 'True Pretences', as well as 'Last Breath', a small volume of poems.
