Hello, The Food and Cooking of Norway is one of the best Norwegian cookbooks to be found (I have over 30 such books) that hosts a good collection of traditional recipes that rely on classic fresh ingredients, no making sauces with canned soup here. There are photos of each recipe that makes all the recipes tempting, plus the photos are beautiful. The photo-illustrated written introduction to the book is a delightful introduction not only to the Norwegian cuisine but also an introduction to the wonderful Norwegian people. I also bought a copy for a Norwegian-American family who had lost their grandparent's recipes over the years and were very happy to reclaim their heritage with the familiar recipes that the cookbook provided. I've found that with many ethnic-American cookbooks that the inclusion of convenience products --canned soups, cake mixes, etc.-- takes the joy and adventure away from a book one hopes that will take one into another's traditional and personal kitchen. With Ms Laurence's book I feel as though I've chanced upon someone's family recipe book. If any Norwegian-Americans want to experience a true taste of their heritage definatley this is the book. Oh, I was a culinary writer for eight years for an Italian newspaper, I know "good" when I see it. ---Gian-John Banchero, Berkeley, CaliforniaRead full review
