Additional information
Jazz pianist Horace Silver led a superb quintet in the late 1960s that included Benny Maupin on flute and tenor sax, Randy Brecker on trumpet, John Williams on bass, and Billy Cobham on drums. That group's YOU GOTTA TAKE A LITTLE LOVE is packed with excellent playing and the leader's memorable compositions (Maupin's contribution, "Lovely's Daughter," is also strong). This is adventurous yet accessible hard bop in the late-'60s vein, and the carefully remastered 2007 reissue should enable contemporary audiences to appreciate it all the more.
