Solar filter is great, used it for seeing sun spots and the recent eclipse, though I only saw partial. It’s very clear and easy to make a proper filter with. If you are buying this for the eclipse order it ahead of time because USPS decided to wait on it for a couple day. Either way solid product.

New? item arrived with fingerprint on the rear side of optic and residue marks from plastic bag on front of optic, as their was no protective cap on that side.

Yes, New. The "fingerprint" was a mark from the cap being pressed against the lens, easily wiped away, and don't press on the center of the cap. And I've never heard of residue from a plastic bag. The item listing doesn't suggest any caps being shipped with the focal reducer.
