T5 is not *exactly* an 850 Evo...
So the SSDs from the T5 Portable are certainly the same physically as the 850 EVO. They behave the same in terms of read sped and write speed, they have the same capacity (I was able to add two to an existing RAID array). They are - for the most part - the same thing.
Except when they're not.
There is a subtle difference, in that the T5 Portable drives have a different firmware. Samsung Magician won't update them, or otherwise support them.
Now that's not really a big issue for me in my use case - as mentioned, they're part of a RAID array, and after adding them to the array, I can't remove them to update the firmware. And I'm not going to use the "make it even faster" features of Samsung Magician (basically a 'better' cache) BUT if you're a Samsung SSD Fan who is accustomed to using Samsung's tooling, this could be a disappointment.
