Close Reading of T.S. Eliot's Greatest Work
1 of 1 found this helpful Eliot's 'Four Quartets' is a masterwork of the great modernist poet, but how to find a way into it if I feel I am not a 'master reader' of poetry? It's okay. There is help here from a master teacher. Professor Thomas Howard leads his reader (student) into the text without simply telling him what to think about it. He leads the way in 'how' to think about it. He leads the reader to the kind of questions that must be asked of the text. He leads the reader deeper and deeper into the wonder and beauty of this seminal work. Makes the intentional archaisms fresh – like Eliot himself did. Connects the fresh with the ancient. All time with the timeless. Let me have Tom Howard at my ear as I read anything – especially T.S. Eliot. Pure joy.
