Well built fast-focusing walk-around short-zoom lens with built-in I/S.
1 of 1 found this helpful Bought to match a 7D body bought on e-bay in hopes will cover the range of 'standard' lens sizes from widish angle to short telephoto portrait length, which it does well. Not very fast with maximum aperture f3.5, although the stabiliser helps. However, fast Canon lenses don't come cheap and for a start-up lens this covers a great range from 35mm equivalent 24 - 136mm zoom.
Solidly constructed with positive but light zoom and manual focus action. Have not noticed any lens creep although has no lock. Is very quick and extremely quiet to focus and cannot really detect any difference in speed or noise when the image stabiliser is on.
The wide 72mm filter size is a larger than most lenses and a pain as need separate set of filters just for this lens. Makes having a Cokin holder with a range if adaptors a better option, perhaps?
My previous camera had an 18-200mm Tamron zoom and this Canon lens is noticeably wider and sharper although at wide angle and wide aperture with any filter on the front there is noticeable vignetting especially top left, for some reason!?

HiLux bonnet antenna mount.
It appears to be fine but have not gone anywhere yet to see if it can hold the antenna without distorting and bending like the previous mount did.

Superior camera for the amateur photography enthusiast and fun to use!
1 of 1 found this helpful Bought as step-up from previous Pentax gear and so far am enjoying the expanded range of features although not mastered them all or even found out where and what some of them actually are! Solidly constructed with great set of buttons that interact with the front finger and rear thumb wheels allowing quick and easy changes in many factors.
I have found it very easy to accidentally alter the program setting dial when switching the camera on and off though I am now so aware of this possibility that it now, of course, doesn't happen!
I feel buying this camera has expanded the photography possibilities for me with its speed and accuracy of focusing and tremendous frame rate, when needed.
