The Next Level of Play
I've been playing guitar since I was 13 and that is almost half a decade ago. Most of my time has been on a Martin six string acoustic. I settled for playing bass with groups and have enjoyed some beautiful electric bass guitars. Once about ten years ago bought a Gibson Les Paul on a whim and thought I would try my hand at lead guitar. After much frustration I sold it and my fifty-watt tweed amp and settled it -- I was a bass player and an acoustic noodler. After becoming inspired by Sonny Landreth and Derek Trucks I looked into slide guitar last year. It has been an exciting journey. I bought and set up an old Gibson SG for slide. After talking to an informative young player/salesperson at a local guitar shop I decided to look into the Robert Cray model to set up as a second guitar for slide. The fixed bridge and the many reviews I read about the MIM model being very close to the custom shop model got my attention. I bought a gorgeous silver gray model on eBay for a little over $500. I haven't stopped playing it since it arrived. I now neglect my other guitars and I am making tremendous headway with standard tuning lead guitar. I love everything about this beauty. The fit and finish is as good as I have seen, including big dollar custom models. The neck and playability make me not able to keep my hands off her. The tone is infectious, great pickups and controls. I will never raise the action on this one for slide. It stays in tune like only my Martin does. This baby deserves a vintage blackface amp and she is going to get one. As you can tell byb all the hyperbole I'm smitten. If you can find one, buy it. This is worth at least twice what I paid for it. I would buy it again without any regrets. I'll never snub my nose at MIM again. Jerry
