Low cost, and many modern features.
This is an excellent slim-profile DVD player with many good features. For one it is multi-region, playing all world-wide DVD discs. Second, the player connects via HDMI. Full stereo digital sound and picture quality. That HDMI can eliminate one extra remote control if you like. Third, it plays downloads via a USB flash drive port. So if you download movie or music files onto a flash drive, there is no need for DVD's or CD's. That saves space and cost. Which brings us to the best feature being the very low cost of this player. A remarkable player at good value.

EBAY find- The original Elusive Pimpernel ( 1950 ) VHS
This was a classic period style British 1950 film that I saw years ago in Europe. It featured a good cast including David Niven, stayed close to the original book, nice artisitic scenes, and a few great gag lines. It looked very good on Swiss television. I could never find this film in North America, VHS, let alone DVD, in the past few decades. Discovering this was for sale recently on EBAY, I was fortunate enough to purchase it from the seller. The VHS copy was in good shape, with little resolution lost over the years. In my view it was the rarest of rare film finds on EBAY. Given our current digital appliances, I converted this from VHS to a DVD DL back-up disc to view with reasonably moderate results. I also converted this to a Divx file to watch on our computer. One wonders which film archive holds the master to this film, and when and if it will ever see the light of day as a restored film on DVD. Perhaps The Criterion Collection may obtain it for a quality restoration in the future. I certainly hope so.

    REGIONAL ITALIAN CUISINE
An exceptional book on regional Italian cooking, with step-by-step preparation photos. Although this is not a "coffee-table" book, anyone travelling in Italy will enjoy reading these pages too. Unlike other Italian cookbooks purchased over the years, this one features more varieties from Aosta, Sud Tirol/Alto Adige, and Friuli. The colour photos series are quite unique: I had always wanted to see the Grappa brewing process, but never got around to it while there, and now it is shown, start to finish in four pages of photos. My wife and I spend time in Italy when we can travelling and in hands-on cooking classes, and this book brings back many of those memories. Selecting and buying the materials at the market, preparation, assembly, and the cooking; This book illustrates it all very well. If you have heard about the fact that certain regions using less cream, less to no garlic, more Sage, Sunflower Oil, and Canelle (Cinnamon) in specialty dishes, you will find those recipes here. This is a well written, hardbound, covered edition, and if you enjoy such recipes, will get a lot of use in your Kitchen.
