Think, Train, Eat for distance (but no advice on form)
This is a well written book by a very accredited author. This author has run ironmans, ultramans, and competed in six day races setting a record of 751 miles in 6 days. He has also run from San Diego to New York City in 51 days, doing over 2 marathons a day. He also has a degree in Applied Kinesiolgy. Needless to say, he knows what he is talking about, both from the science and experience. The book breaks down into three areas: How to Think, Train, and Eat for distance. The thinking portion can be summed up in the philosophy of always being present, or in the moment, rather than thinking about the end goal. This makes perfect sense if you are running for distance, and he offers some good mental techniques for achieving this. Training for distance focuses a bit on AK, finding the right shoes, and running in target heart rate zones. Eating for distance follows a diet that parallels an Alkalizing/Energizing diet rich in vegetables and fish. I don't believe this book was meant to be completely stand alone, although it is accessible to the beginner runner. It does not spend much time on technique, but rather assumes you have a workable technique and tries to teach you how to take that technique and extend it out to extreme distances (his specialty). Its an interesting and insightful read and I highly recommend it.
