    Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries Series 1-3 Season 3 2 1 Fishers R4 DVD (13 Discs)
    12 April 2018
Aaah, the good old days. As we wished they had been.
I eagerly watched the first episode when it came out, but turned it off because it didn't follow the book and introduced a new (and, I thought, superfluous) character. And so matters stayed until a fortnight ago, three years after the series aired. I watched the second episode and was immediately hooked. Yes, there are major differences from the books (and I have all of them), but the result is sheer genius. Whoever did the casting deserves major appreciation. Essie Davis IS Phryne Fisher, and the elevation of Jack Robinson to a major character is what makes the series so special. Phryne says and does the outrageous, but it is his reaction which makes her antics so funny. Nathan Page is the master of a quirked eyebrow or lifted chin, a tiny smile or the rolled eyes. And to see the Melbourne I knew so well, without the modern additions of soulless glass and concrete, was a visual joy. I also loved the sly comments tossed into the mix, such as Jack's ambition to ride in the Tour de France (check Nathan Page's history!). Great fun, beautifully shot, quintessentially Australian and masterful.
Christopher Robin DVD NEW Region 4 Ewan McGregor
    03 October 2019
A film loaded with warmth and charm, as well as a timeless message for today's world. Pooh Sticks, anyone?
In today's plethora of superheroes and CGI, a gentle film like "Christopher Robin" is a necessity. Don't get me wrong: I thoroughly enjoy the MCU and its CGI effects. But, for a complete change of pace and a focus on something real, "Christopher Robin" revealed a charm that I found I needed. I went back to a time of slow and deep relationships and the vibrancy of childhood imagination. The setting was perfect, the "human'' cast ditto. Special mention must be made of Bronte Carmichael as Madeline. And as for the denizens of the Hundred Acre Wood, they were eons away from the ghastly (my opinion) Disney cartoon characters and took their life from E.H. Shepard. I thank Disney for rectifying their mistake. The voices were also spot on, especially Pooh. A necessary film, highlighting the importance of family and imagination in truly human existence.
CELTIC THUNDER - STORM DVD ~ IRISH / IRELAND / CELTS SBS *NEW*
    14 October 2016
    Celtic Thunder nails it
Here's the original ensemble (with Neil newly added) doing something a little different. Rather than concert form, this is a story. Thoroughly entertaining, and the singing is -- as always -- top notch. Watching, and listening to, George and Paul again, and seeing Damian develop to his late teens with an extraordinary voice, is pure joy.
