More than you'd expect
Brilliant and sensitive exploration of non-binary gendered person, set against backdrop of USA mid-late 20th century history. Loved it.

Writing made simpler
As an audio book, this works very well. The narrator's voice is pleasant and so enjoyable that when the book finished I let it start to play again.
The quality of Lamott's writing is such that I searched for her fiction in my local library. It is a far cry from being a dry dull academic manual.
The book's intention to be a guide to aspiring writers is met with a step by step, humane, compassionate and funny approach, full of anecdotes about life and writing. It's organised into sections to make the amount of information manageable.
I'm intending to start a blog about my work but was unsure "how to write". A friend who writes beautifully recommended Bird by Bird, and it has given me the confidence to believe, I can do this. It's one of those books you feel grateful to have read.
