In 2012 still relevant. One of the best processors at the time it came out.
Five years into owning this processor it is still relevant! Will modestly overclock. The biggest knock against it is the out of date power consumption and power management features. The aging platforms it is plugged into are the biggest drawback.

Bad Option in 2012. Best use for space heating rooms in northern climates!
Extremely power hungry. Will cost a lot to run and wind up quickly being a very poor buy due to high power consumption. Best use for space heating rooms in northern climates; seriously--turn heat down, crank up a Smithfield Pentium D and it will heat the room! Do not buy in hotter parts of the country. Decent performance for office tasks. Marginally runs streaming HD video by itself. If you dont need it for space heating throw it out!

Torture
A very poor performing processor unless you run Windows XP or some old OS. Slow slow slow. Intel should have never produced and paired with windows vista!
The only reason this is not 1 star is it could be used for a lower power and low cpu requirement device like a basic file server or firewall.
