My Middle School Students Loved This Book
1 of 1 found this helpful As a middle school language arts teacher, I'm always looking for quality fiction that will keep my students excited about reading. The Wright 3, by Blue Balliett, is an award-winning book that my 6th and 7th graders really enjoyed this year as we prepared for our district's Battle of the Books competion.
The kids not only were engaged in the plot (which is realistic fiction with a mystery twist), but also learned quite a bit about architecture and prairie style architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Our school is located in a city that has two Wright buildings, and now that they know something about Wright and his work, several kids have expressed interest in our going on a field trip to visit those buildings. All because we read The Wright 3 in class! In addition, my students are checking out other of Balliett's other works, which also give lots of background information about artists.
Balliet's style is easy to read, but the content is rich and children will pick up much incidental information about math, art and architecture as they read. I would recommend this book for children in 4th to 8th grades.

Okay if you are looking for mah jongg kards & a good small reference guide
2 of 2 found this helpful This comes with a deck of mah jongg playing cards or "kards," as they are known. The accompanying book is a condensed version (mostly word for word) of Elaine Sandberg's excellent full-sized book called A Beginner's Guide to American Mah Jongg, which I already had. Basically, if you are looking for MJ Kards to travel with, this would be probably be what you're looking for. However, if you really want to learn to play mah jongg, I think you're better off purchasing an actual tile set and Sandberg's full size book.

Great Binoculars for the Price
These are a terrific pair of binoculars at this price point. They are bright & easy to focus - they "feel" like a much more expensive binocular. We initially picked up a pair of these for our young kids because the Cornell Ornithology Lab recommended then. I liked them so much, I bought a second pair for our cabin. We keep a pair of these in the car in case of we have a spontaneous bird-sighting opportunity, & we stuff them into a backpack to take to concerts at the performing arts center. They're also perfect for kids or for those who are not used to quickly finding an object in the field of vision & focusing in - very easy to use. For those familiar with Nikon binoculars, I would say that these are nearly as good as my Nikon Monarchs, but at a fraction of the price - and definitely much easier to use for beginners. Highly recommend.
