Ludlow and the Shropshire Hills
A lovely little book, with beautiful photos of Shropshire and now I can be there! I only wish my sweet British mum were here too

GARDENS OF STONE: MY BOYHOOD IN THE FRENCH RESISTANCE by Stephen Grady
1 of 1 found this helpful If you are interested in the French Resistance, this is your book. It is a well written, stunning piece of literature. I could hardly put this book down, the narrative is so compelling. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. At times you will laugh, at times you will weep, but in the end you will learn a great deal about this incredible man, who was, at the age of 16 active with the French Resistance. He was brave (at times a bit too brave), but he survived to tell the tale, thank goodness. You will never forget it. I have read a good many narratives by those in the Resistance, and this is among the best. This is not a book written by someone who wrote about a Resistance fighter--this is a story from the the man himself, who fought as a young boy and survived into manhood. This is his story. Like so many of his generation, following the war, Grady never intended to write about his experiences. But urged by his son to write this in his eighties, he produced an intense narrative.
