The best thing about football- the wives!!
This is one of the best finds for those who like campy and fun shows with dark comedy. It's a little difficult to understand some of the dialogue though if you're not used to watching British TV. They use alot of slang, but there's a Slang Dictionary on the DVD. Tanya Turner is one of the best characters ever, and Zoe Lucker plays her to excessive perfection. It's like Dynasty mixed with Desperate Housewives (apparently DH was inspired by FW according to ebay) mixed with a crazy rock video. There is alot of sex, alcohol, and drug use in the show. When I tell friends about the show, I compare it to those Spanish soap operas- everyone wears too much makeup, sleeps with everyone else, gets into crazy predicaments, overacts too much, and is way too melodramatic. But if you're in for some TV cotton candy, this is definitely addictive and fun. By the way- season 2 is even better than season 1, and there are 5 seasons total, plus a spinoff called Footballers' Wives Overtime. See the British original before they make a cheesy American remake (according to Entertainment Weekly it's in the works already). The only negatives are that I wish they had special features on the DVD (it's only the slang dictionary) and there are too few episodes!

Tanya and Amber- how could it be better
So presumably if you're looking at this, you're either a fan of the show already or you've read the reviews for Seasons 1 & 2. So, you already know hoq fun this show is. But, Season 3 is the best yet. It comes out on video 9/19/06, but I've seen it on BBC America already. There's a new player on the Earls Park team and he and his wife have some issues. Amber is a former Bollywood star whose career is on the downswing and her progressive breakdown throughout the season is purely perfect. The interactions with Amber and everyone's favorite wife Tanya Turner are the best catfights since Dynasty. And the whole Tanya/Frank storyline shows Zoe Lucker's best imitation of crazy Spanish soap actresses yet. If you're only going to watch one Season, watch this one!

    The wives are back!
This review will essentially be the same as the Season 1 review. This is one of the best finds for those who like campy and fun shows with dark comedy. ONe of the great things about Season 2 is that it introduces one of my favorite characters, Hazel Bailey, a tough as nails agent with a sarcastic wit. Hazel gets some of the best lines in this series, especially in Season 3 and 4.
