Powering the Luftwaffe: German Aero Engines of World War II
24 May 2016
Very interesting and compelling reading for the aviation historian, enthusiast or modeller.
The writer, Jason R. Wisniewski, has gone into great detail about this very interesting and sadly very little recorded subject. The aircraft piston engines of the Second World War, were pretty much the last hurrah of these incredible machines, as the aviation industry was now turning its attention to jet propulsion. The German engineers contributed much to the art and achieved much in a relatively short space of time. Owing to the restrictions placed upon the german aircraft industry, including the engine manufacturers, under the terms of the Treaty Of Versailles, they did extremely well as they lagged far behind their American and British counter parts. It was not until the early thirties when Adolf Hitler came to power, that the German aircraft industry was able to once again resume research and production of high performance aircraft engines. Daimler Benz in particular under the guidance of their very gifted engineer, Dip. Ing. Fritz Nallinger, produced some outstanding power plants for the new German Luftwaffe. The German aircraft industry was also at the forefront jet and rocket engine developments and if it had not been for short sightedness of several senior members of the Luftwaffe, the germans may very well have had jet powered fighter aircraft in service much sooner than they in fact did. In doing so the air war over Europe may have had a more devastating outcome for the allies. I still believe they would have won, but at a much higher cost. In summary the book is well written, with a plethora of information regarding manufacturers, models and aircraft powered by each type. The book has very detailed and handy reference charts outlining production figures, engine types and sub types etc. There is also a very handy cross reference chart, comparing the various German engines with allied and Japanese engines of the era. This is followed by a nicely detailed glossary relating to the subject matter, also of good value for the expert as well as the uninitiated. Lastly, there is an excellent bibliography listing those authors who have published books on the same subject. All in all a good read for the aviation historian, enthusiasm or modeller, good value for money and a must have if your interest is related to subject.

01 December 2016
Highly detailed plastic kit.
The AMT Peterbilt 359 conventional truck/ tractor model is a very good replica of the original prototype, highly detailed and easily to assemble for even the inexperienced modeller. The kit is complete with a variety of chrome plated parts and all goes together well, thanks to a well detailed and clear set of instructions. There are ten detailed tyres with the kit as well as a good decal sheet, allowing the modeller a variety of decorations to choose from.

Highly detailed and good value for money.
I've been looking for one of these model railway vehicles for aver two years now and was fortunate enough to be able to buy it on a buy now basis. The detail is excellent and it performs on my club layout extremely well and is a much needed addition to my passenger car feel and makes my vintage Santa Fe passenger train consist complete.
